FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 5/11/2010

The Dalles, OR – May 8, 2010 – The Ecotrain Media Group scholarship committee is pleased to announce its first quarter scholarship recipient: Ashton Thurneyssen. Ashton is a Hood River resident attending the Columbia Gorge Community College in the Renewable Energy Technology program.

As a result of their developing sustainable business model, this is the first donation for Ecotrain Media Group, LLC to their “green education scholarship.” Funds for the scholarships are raised with 5% of the proceeds for each purchase of the Ecotrain Green Career Guide Almanac. The Ecotrain Green Education Scholarship fund was started with the cofounders belief in expanding Ecotrain Media Group’s mission in helping others along their green career pathway.

“I am excited to award our first scholarship to Ashton; he really deserves this. I am very grateful to return to The Dalles, and say thank you. One year ago, the Ecotrain Green Career Guide was a concept, and was inspired while I was attending the Renewable Energy program here in The Dalles. The first publication was only made possible with the generous public service of The Dalles Public Library, the Columbia Gorge Community College, and the wifi connection at the Windy River Lounge late night. This experience is emotionally heightened with our first award being presented to one of my former fellow cohort students. This is an awesome experience.” explains Ecotrain cofounder Kevin Pile.

Ashton, a 2nd year student with the Renewable Energy program, states his attendance is “not just because it is a great job opportunity, but because it has been a life long interest and passion. I believe this is the time to create a new way of thinking for future generations.” Ecotrain Media Group is proud to support these passions, interests, and pursuits.

A Day in the life of an Ecopreneur-April Fools

10 Books @ 1.53 lbs per Ecotrain Green Career Guide Almanac is equal to 15.3 lbs. Yeah, today was one of those days, many would confess as an inconvenient April Fools. While returning to the office after lunch, I was looking forward to fulfilling new orders for our new 2010.2011 Ecotrain Green Career Guide Almanac. Portland was beautiful today, sun was out, and a brisk bite that reminded you that Spring only just arrived. Returning from lunch I was completing my first 3 miles of walking, ready to get back to work, clear head, and enjoying the final steps upstairs to the Ecotrain Office located inside SOUK, a premier Old Town Portland, cooperative business member, creative workspace. I walked up the stairs and in the front door greeted by Brian, the amazing SOUK office manager, and owner of Tribute Gallery. I proceeded towards my whiteboard space, needing to fulfill a few lunch time orders. It was at this moment, that I realized my agenda for the afternoon changed. Oops, I forgot to replenish the office with fresh Ecotrain Almanacs. I had to return on foot a mile away to grab some more Almanacs. Willie, a street haggler out front asked me, “You like to walk huh?” I responded with, “you know I do, Will, yes I do!” and off I went in stride. Twenty minutes passed, and I returned on that same route down Lovejoy, under the Broadway Bridge, and alongside the Amtrak station with a case of Ecotrain Almanacs weighing 15 lbs on both of my shoulders, one side at a time. It was on this worry free walk about I said hello to many, smiled at many more, and thought for prolonged periods. It was today Ecotrain submitted our Almanac to Powell’s Books and Barnes and Noble and for submission review. It was today Ecotrain’s new column went live on What’s Happening PDX, Portland’s premier Eco-Hip Magazine. It was today we made a few sales. And it was today that Ecotrain declared “random days off” to be included into the Ecotrain Quarterly Sustainability Report as an Employee Benefit starting with tomorrow being our first; rewarding everyone’s hard work and dedication to the Ecotrain cause. As a first day off in months; I will be spending the day in the Willamette Valley wine country with Rachel.

“A Day in the Life of an Ecopreneur”

“A Day in the Life of an Ecopreneur”

I was looking forward to a new walking path. Heading South through the NW district instead of East though the Pearl and Old Town. Through the old Portland neighborhood, Elise Ringer, Ecotrain Media Group’s very own, and I met proceeded to walk together 13 blocks to catch the Portland City Max line to Hillsboro. 3 stops later we arrived at Washington Park. A cold brisk wind blowing right in our face, a force stepping to challenge the taking of my hemp denim hat. A threat and continual tease of a sideways rain. We still agree, we love Portland.

We bare these elements everyday as part of our lifestyle, but today was for a cause that Ecotrain Media Group believes in. A cause Ecotrain has offered as part of our Corporate Sustainability Bylaws. Elise and I presented the World Forestry Center a donation for our collaborating sponsorship. Ecotrain Media Group has engaged in sponsoring the Johnson Swanson tree farm and conservation project. For every Ecotrain Green Career Guide Almanac that is published, and the printed marketing material used to sell that book will be offset with a donation to Portland’s World Forestry Center.

“A Day in the Life of an Ecopreneur”

“A Day in the life of an Ecopreneur”

Good Morning Portland! I step foot outside the front porch ready to brave the unpredictable weather; listening to the stories of the Radio Cab night crew about to clock out of their shift. They seem anxiously ready to go home to their families, or go feel like men after a hard nights work sharing a beer at a local brew pub. I walk down the steps of an old historical, Slab town home; grinning to the new day ahead. My morning walk I appreciate. One mile to the office, plus or minus of course. I get to take into account the city grid offering so many daily whimsical routes. My free transportation, exercise, meditation, and my community connection are all completed before I even start my routine day.
